Whistling Thrush home-stay, Castle Rock

Positive! Magical and Serene

We all want to have a great holiday, we plan, we research on the best places with great number of best reviews, and still sometimes we fail to find the place which maps with our mind. We should be lucky enough to find that place, which is the one we were looking for to unwind from the hustle bustle and juggling’s of the city life.

Whistling Thrush is one such place, from the moment you enter you wouldn’t find a single reason to brood about. There’s so much to this place which cannot be expressed in words, but felt.

We had booked 3 cottages at Whistling Thrush, traveled from Bangalore via Dharwad. While we reached half way, Avinash had called and directed us the route and the home-stay is listed in the google maps, so we wouldn’t get lost. However, there’s no network on the Jungles. The place is amidst the deep forest of Castle Rock. Avinash also came halfway to escort us from the Castle Rock check post. So, not to worry about getting lost.

The moment we reached the home-stay, we felt it so magical, serene, and peaceful. The weather was so awesome, being so close to the coastal area the place was chilling. We spent the evenings around the campfire and mornings around the wood fire. The place is quiet and picture perfect. Hosts and caretakers wouldn’t give you a chance to be disappointed. You will enjoy awesome home cooked food. What else would you need on a holiday where you just have to relax, relax and relax.

Around the home-stay:

The home-stay itself is within the forest, so the environment itself is refreshing, you would spot lots of flora and fauna. Every cottage has a backyard with the stream view.

Dudhsagar falls is just 12 kms from the home-stay. You could either trek or hire a vehicle halfway and then trek 2 kms till the top of Dudhsagar falls origin. There are other options like Vajra falls and river rafting spots, which we did not try due to lack of time.

To summarize, this place was one among the best home-stays we visited. Thanks to Mr. Avinash Redkar for thinking about people and arranging such a beautiful holiday destination for us. Respect!

Tip: It’s very cold during winter and it’s recommended to carry warm clothes with you.
